In life, I've learned that making money is not the meaning of life.

What is your favorite part about competing in the US Chess League?

Due to the workings of the Swiss system, I rarely get to play my "equals" in such events. USCL makes this possible.

What other interests/hobbies/passions do you have?

<!-- D(["mb","\n \u003cdiv\>\u003cfont face\u003d\"Arial\" size\u003d\"2\"\> Traditional games in \n general, for example GO. He's black against IM Irina Krush, the 2007 US Women's Champion. This will be a great match to watch.

IM Kaufman's son Ray Kaufman is an NM himself and an alternate for the Baltimore Kingfishers.

A chessgames.com comment:

Sep-01-03

ughaibu: Larry Kaufman has been the top rated gaijin shogi player for more than twenty years.

What's gaijin shogi? Well shogi is Japanese chess, and I as far as I can gather from googling, gaijin is a foreigner. Came across an interesting read about 'foreigners' in Japan - will have to read more later.

An interview: http://www.msoworld.com/chat/kaufpost.html

IM Kaufman is the author of The Chess Advantage in Black and White.

He's a member of the Rybka team member, the most feared chess program out there right now.

IM Kaufman's game against IM Krush is going awfully fast. Time Control of 90/30 - he's at 1:27 after 11 moves. Krush is at 1:16. Queens have been off the board for several moves now.
It's Black's 12th move and he's down to 1:13 and still yet to move. Makes a change from his quick moving.

For those interested in the Maryland area, here's a list of teachers that include IM Kaufman: http://www.serve.com/mdchess/chess_teachers.html

Hey Chess Players

Name's Sara and here's where I check out the players and not their games!
